The singing, music playing, dancing and storytelling traditional Irish family band, The Byrne Brothers, will perform at the Irish Cultural and Heritage Center, 2133 W. Wisconsin Ave, Milwaukee, on Saturday, April 16.
Recognized as one of the biggest names in Irish music and voted “Rising Stars of the Year in 2020 by American Radio Listeners, dad Tommy and his three sons are “Living the Dream” they only wished for a few years ago. Living their dream is how they describe their move from Donegal, Ireland to Florida in 2018 after receiving permanent residency in the United States for their “Extraordinary ability in the arts.” According to Irish American Magazine, “The Byrne Brothers are taking traditional Irish music and dance to a whole new level.”
Their dream began many years ago with Tommy who has been a professional musician for more than 30 years. His sons were playing music, dancing and winning awards from a young age. Following their appearance on an Irish late night TV show and after a video of the family busking in Ennis, County Clare went viral with more than three million views, they began to be noticed nationally. During a family vacation to Disney World, the boys got up and danced at the Raglan Road Pub and Restaurant in Orlando and were invited to perform when they next visited. They became the youngest ever cast entertainers at the pub and continue to perform there.
Along with dad who plays guitar, fiddle, uilleann pipes, bagpipe, fiddle, whistle and also sings, Luca, 17, is a button accordion player and also an award-winning photographer and filmmaker. Finn, 15, plays banjo, mandolin and guitar and is a composer and choreographs the show’s dances. Dempsey, 12, plays bodhrán, whistles and sings and had his first performance at age two. In 2020 the Byrne Brothers released their newest CD appropriately named “Living the Dream.” The cover picture of the band standing in front of their RV was designed by Luca and won a Best Album Cover Award. The RV has taken them to at least 44 US states. They are a favorite at Milwaukee Irish Fest where they performed before large and enthusiastic crowds in 2021.
“You’ll be on your feet cheering as they get up to dance and send those high kicks in the air sending sparks onstage with their stepping.” Irish American News.
