Grammy®-Awarded, Emmy-nominated, musical star of Riverdance, Eileen Ivers, will bring her celebrated Irish fiddle playing to the Irish Cultural and Heritage Center, 2133 W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee, on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 7:30 p.m. The Hallamór or “Great Hall,” will be decorated for the holidays.
Called “the future of the Celtic Fiddle” by the Washington Post and the “Jimi Hendrix of the violin” by the New York Times, the Bronx born Ivers continues to push the fiddling tradition from a folk music staple to a fiercely fresh, powerfully beautiful, intensely driving world stage experience. Not differentiating between fiddle and violin, Ivers is a nine time All Ireland Fiddle Champion, a guest soloist with more than 50 symphony orchestras who also shreds electric fiddle through fuzz, wah and looping effects. Ivers has performed with many artists in different genres including Sting and The Chieftains and has been a featured instrumentalist on numerous soundtracks.
Her most recent CD, “Beyond the Bog Road”, and its researched sixteen-page liner notes, focuses on the influences of the Celtic tradition on roots music including bluegrass, French-Canadian, Cajun, Appalachian, and Americana and describes how the music journeyed to become a fundamental ingredient of the American country music tradition. The album reached number one on the Alt-Country Roots Music Chart. A founding member of Cherish the Ladies, Ivers has performed many times during Milwaukee Irish Fest including the 2021 festival.
Ivers will be joined by her new band, Universal Roots, an ensemble with vocals and a broad array of instrumentation including guitar, upright and electric bass, trumpet, baritone sax, button accordion, whistles, percussion and piano. In addition to fiddle, Ivers also play mandolin, and bodhrán and is an award winning banjo player.
